Quizizz alternative

Quizizz Alternative: Create Quizzes from PDFs Automatically

Quizizz is now Wayground, and it is still built to deliver a quiz on screen rather than to write one from your material. PDFQuiz starts at the other end: upload the chapter, deck or notes you are teaching from, and the AI writes the questions. Export as a PDF, a Word file or a printable answer key.

Your files are processed securely and deleted automatically after the quiz is built.

Quizizz is now Wayground: what changed

Quizizz was rebranded as Wayground. As of July 2026, quizizz.com/pricing redirects to wayground.com/pricing and the product is presented as "Wayground, formerly Quizizz". Accounts and existing content carried over, so if you are searching for a Quizizz alternative you are comparing against Wayground today.

Wayground does accept uploaded files, and its documentation is unusually specific about the limits: PDF, PPTX, DOC, DOCX, PNG or JPG, one file at a time, and only the first 16,000 characters are processed. That cap is the practical reason teachers working from full chapters look elsewhere. Its free Basic plan also stores 20 assessments with a 14 day expiry. Wayground no longer publishes an individual price at all: the plan list is now Basic (free), School and District, both quoted by sales, so a single teacher is choosing between the free tier and asking an administrator to buy a site license.

Last updated July 2026. Limits and pricing read from Wayground's own help center and pricing page.

Where Wayground wins: if you want students competing live on their phones with roster and grade sync back to your LMS, it does that and PDFQuiz does not. Plenty of teachers run both, generating the questions here and delivering them there. If the real question is which of the two to adopt in the first place, the Kahoot vs Quizizz comparison lays out participant limits and what each free tier actually allows.

The Problem with Quizizz (and How PDFQuiz Solves It)

Quizizz has become a classroom favorite for its engaging student experience and self-paced quiz options. Teachers love how students can work through quizzes at their own speed, and the meme-based feedback adds fun to learning. But there's a fundamental problem: creating quizzes in Quizizz still requires manually typing every single question.

For a 20-question chapter quiz, that means typing 20 questions, 80 answer choices, and configuring each question individually. Even experienced Quizizz users spend 30-45 minutes creating a single quiz. Multiply that by the dozens of quizzes needed throughout a school year, and you're looking at hundreds of hours of tedious data entry. That's time American teachers simply don't have.

PDFQuiz takes a fundamentally different approach. Instead of asking teachers to become typists, we ask: "What if quizzes could create themselves from the materials you already have?" Upload any PDF - a textbook chapter, your lecture notes, a study guide, district curriculum documents - and our AI reads, understands, and generates comprehensive quiz questions automatically.

The same 20-question quiz that takes 45 minutes in Quizizz takes about 30 seconds in PDFQuiz. Upload, click generate, done. You can then edit any questions you want to modify, but most teachers find the AI-generated questions match what they would have created manually. The difference is you didn't spend your planning period typing.

This matters enormously for K-12 teachers following best practices. Research shows frequent formative assessment improves student outcomes. But "frequent" in Quizizz means frequent manual labor. In PDFQuiz, frequent assessment becomes actually achievable. You can generate a quick comprehension check for every lesson without sacrificing your work-life balance.

Common Questions

Can I import my existing Quizizz quizzes?

While direct import isn't available, you can quickly recreate quizzes by uploading the source materials. Most teachers find generating fresh quizzes from their curriculum documents produces better results than migrating old content.

Do students need accounts to take quizzes?

No! Students can access quizzes via a simple link without creating accounts. This makes deployment easy and avoids student privacy concerns around additional account creation.

How does the AI know what questions to create?

Our AI uses advanced natural language processing to understand your documents - identifying key concepts, important facts, vocabulary, and relationships. It then formulates questions that test understanding of these elements, similar to how an experienced teacher would create assessments.

Is PDFQuiz suitable for elementary school?

Yes! PDFQuiz works for all K-12 grade levels. The AI adjusts question complexity based on the source material. Upload elementary-level content and you'll get age-appropriate questions.

Stop Typing. Start Teaching.
