The short answer

A PDF becomes a Wayground quiz in one of two ways. Wayground AI can read a single PDF and draft questions, but on its import route it processes only the first 16,000 characters of the file. The other way is the spreadsheet import: generate the questions from the full document, enter them in the Wayground template (Question Text, Question Type, Option 1 to 5, Correct Answer, Time in seconds, Image Link, Answer explanation) and upload it under Import worksheets/questions. The spreadsheet route has no reading cap, and the question set stays yours for a printed test or another platform.

PDFQuiz is an independent tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Wayground or Quizizz. Import rules below were read from the Wayground help center and its official template on October 14, 2026.

What the Wayground import spreadsheet template looks like

One row is one question. The header row has eleven columns and must stay exactly as Wayground wrote it. These three rows follow the official template, filled with questions of the kind PDFQuiz writes from a biology chapter.

Notice the Correct Answer column. It holds a position number, never the answer text, and a multiple answer row lists several numbers with commas.

These rules come from the instruction row inside the official Wayground template itself, so they are the ones the importer checks your file against.

The template has no published row limit or character limit, and we could not find one in the help center, so we state none here. If your file is rejected, split it in half and import each part to find the row that breaks.

The 16,000 character figure matters more than it looks. Twenty pages of running text is roughly 8,000 to 10,000 words, or 50,000 to 60,000 characters. Hand that PDF to the import and the questions come from about the first third of it. The gap tends to surface late, when someone notices the quiz never touches the second half of the reading.

If the unit quiz has to cover the whole reading, generate the questions from the full file first. Wayground still does what it is good at afterward: the live game, homework mode, the reports, the accommodations. You are only replacing the step where the questions get written. How to convert a PDF to a Wayground quiz in four steps

Upload the source

Drop in the chapter PDF, the slide deck and the handout together. Turn on OCR if the PDF is a scan.

Pick types that import

Choose single choice, multiple answer, true or false, fill in the blank and open ended. Read the questions and fix any you would not ask.

Fill the template

One question per row. Put the position of the right option in Correct Answer and set the Question Type where it is not Multiple Choice.

Import and publish

Import worksheets/questions, Spreadsheet, Upload from Device. Delete what you do not want, Continue, then Publish.

One thing to plan for in step 3: the PDFQuiz CSV export (Pro plan and up) lists one answer per row with a Yes or No correct flag, while Wayground wants one question per row with a position number. Moving a 30 question set across takes a short copy and paste pass in Excel or Google Sheets.

How PDFQuiz question types map to Wayground question types

PDFQuiz writes six question types. Five have a matching row type in the Wayground template. One does not, and it is better to know that before you generate.

For a game-style quiz, single choice and true or false carry most of the set. If you only want those, the MCQ maker from PDF generates four-option questions and nothing else. PDF to Wayground questions teachers ask

Can you upload a PDF to Wayground?

Yes. Wayground AI accepts one PDF, PPT, PPTX, DOC, DOCX, JPG or PNG file at a time and drafts questions from it. The Wayground help center says that on the Import worksheets/questions route only the first 16,000 characters of the file are processed, which is about 2,500 words. For a longer chapter, or several files at once, generate the questions outside Wayground and bring them in with the spreadsheet import.

How do I import questions into Wayground from a spreadsheet?

From the creation lobby select Import worksheets/questions, choose Spreadsheet, and click Upload from Device. The file has to follow the Wayground template. Wayground then lists the questions it read, you delete any you do not want, click Continue, edit as needed and click Publish. A second route is Create, Assessment, Start from scratch, then Spreadsheet under Import existing files at the bottom of the question type page.

What is the Wayground spreadsheet template format?

One row per question, eleven columns: Question Text, Question Type, Option 1 to Option 5, Correct Answer, Time in seconds, Image Link and Answer explanation. Only the question text and the first two options are required. Correct Answer takes the position number of the right option, 1 to 5, and Time in seconds defaults to 30 when left empty.

Which question types does the Wayground spreadsheet import accept?

The template shows six: Multiple Choice, Checkbox, Fill-in-the-Blank, Open-Ended, Poll and Draw. Multiple Choice is the default when the Question Type cell is empty. Checkbox is the multiple answer type and takes several numbers separated by commas, such as 1,2,3. Open-Ended, Poll, Draw and Fill-in-the-Blank rows leave the Correct Answer cell blank.

Why is my Wayground spreadsheet import not working?

Check the file against the template rules. The usual causes are a Correct Answer cell that holds the answer text instead of a number from 1 to 5, a number that points at an empty option cell, a multiple answer question left as Multiple Choice instead of Checkbox, a Question Type spelled differently from the template, or a renamed or reordered header row.

Is Quizizz now Wayground?

Yes. Quizizz rebranded to Wayground in 2025 and the quiz library, reports and import options carried over, so a PDF to Quizizz converter and a PDF to Wayground converter are the same job. The help center now lives at help.wayground.com.

Can I import a Google Form into Wayground?

Yes, through Import worksheets/questions, then Google Form, then Import from Drive. The Wayground help center notes that imported Google Forms come in as Poll questions, which are ungraded by default, so each one has to be switched to a graded type in the editor. A spreadsheet in the template format arrives graded, with the correct answer already set.

Do I still need a converter when Wayground AI reads PDFs?

Not for a short handout you will only ever play in Wayground. A separate PDF to Wayground converter earns its place when the source is longer than 16,000 characters, when the unit is spread over several files, or when the same questions also have to exist as a printed test with an answer key, a Kahoot, or a quiz in your LMS.
