Gimkit kits written from your own reading
Upload the chapter PDF, the slide deck or the study guide, up to 10 files at once, and get questions with one correct answer and three believable wrong ones. That is exactly the shape of the Gimkit import template, so the whole kit goes in with a single CSV upload instead of an evening of typing.

The short answer
Gimkit cannot read a PDF. Its kit editor takes questions typed by hand, a spreadsheet saved as .csv, pasted flashcard text or a copied kit. To turn a PDF into a Gimkit kit, generate the questions from the PDF, enter them in the Gimkit import template (Question, Correct Answer, Incorrect Answer 1, Incorrect Answer 2, Incorrect Answer 3), save it as CSV and upload it under Import from Spreadsheet. A 30 question kit fits in 30 rows.
PDFQuiz is an independent tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Gimkit. Import rules and prices below were read from the Gimkit help center and its official template files in October 2026.
One row is one question, and the answers are written out in full. Unlike Kahoot or Blooket, Gimkit does not want a position number for the right answer. The column a cell sits in tells Gimkit whether it is right or wrong.
Row 1 of the official file is the title line and row 2 holds the headers. Leave both alone and start your questions on row 3.
The second official template keeps only the Question and Correct Answer columns, the shape of a vocabulary or term list.
Both templates come from the files the Gimkit help center links for download. The column order matters more than the header wording, because Gimkit reads the cells by position.
Gimkit publishes no row limit or character limit for the template, and we found none in the help center, so we state none here. If a file fails, split it in half and import each part to find the row that breaks.
The slow part was never the upload. It is writing three wrong answers that a student could actually fall for, thirty times over. That is the part PDFQuiz does from the chapter itself.

Gimkit gives you several doors in. Which one is fastest depends on what you start with, and for a short vocabulary list you may not need us at all.
The distractors are where kits succeed or fail. Gimkit is a game where students answer the same pool over and over to earn in-game money, so a wrong option that is obviously silly gets learned as a pattern by round two and the review stops working. Wrong answers taken from the same chapter, such as another treaty, another amendment or another organelle, keep students reading the question.
That is also why we tell teachers to generate four option questions for Gimkit and leave five option sets for other tools. The template has room for one correct and three incorrect answers, so a five option question has to lose an option before it fits. Teachers deciding between platforms rather than filling one can read our Blooket vs Gimkit comparison or the honest Gimkit alternative page.
Drop in the chapter PDF, the slide deck and the handout together. Turn on OCR if the PDF is a scanned copy.
Pick single choice and true or false. Read the set and cut any question you would not ask in class.
Question in column A, the right answer in B, the three wrong ones in C to E. Save the sheet as .csv.
New Kit, Import from Spreadsheet, Upload File. Open the kit, check it, then host a live game or assign it.
Plan for one detail in step 3. The PDFQuiz CSV export (Pro plan and up) lists one answer per row with a Yes or No correct flag, while Gimkit wants one question per row with the correct answer first. Rearranging a 30 question set takes a short copy and paste pass in Excel or Google Sheets.
PDFQuiz writes six question types. Two go straight into the template, two need a minute in the Gimkit editor afterward, and two are better kept for the printed version of the test.
If four option questions are all you want, the MCQ maker from PDF writes nothing else. Teachers who keep a pool per unit can build it once with the question bank generator and pull each Gimkit kit, Kahoot and paper quiz from it.
A unit review kit written from the whole chapter, played live on Friday and assigned as homework over the weekend, with the same questions exported as a printed quiz and answer key.
One CSV per unit shared across the team, so every section of the course reviews the same items before the common assessment.
A drill kit built from a review packet PDF, so students grind through the material in game form between sessions.
Not directly. The Gimkit help center lists four ways to add questions to a kit: typing them in the kit editor, importing a spreadsheet saved as a .csv file, pasting flashcard text with the term and definition separated by a tab, and copying an existing kit. None of them reads a PDF, so the questions have to be written from the PDF first and then brought in as a CSV.
Click New Kit on your dashboard and fill in the kit details, then choose Import from Spreadsheet in the left pane of the kit editor. Pick a template, fill it in, download it as a .csv file and press the blue Upload File button. Gimkit sends you back to the dashboard with the new kit, which you can open to check and edit.
Gimkit offers two templates. The first has five columns in this order: Question, Correct Answer, Incorrect Answer 1, Incorrect Answer 2 and Incorrect Answer 3. The second has only Question and Correct Answer. In both files the first row is a title line and the column headers sit in the second row, so your questions start on row three.
Gimkit says the most common cause is content in the wrong columns. Start from one of its two templates, keep the title row and header row exactly as they are, put only one answer in each cell, and save the sheet as .csv rather than .xlsx. A stray note typed in a sixth column or a merged cell is enough to break the upload.
Yes. The template opens from Import from Spreadsheet inside the kit editor as a Google Sheet. If your school blocks Google, the Gimkit help article links a Dropbox folder with both templates as .csv and Excel files. We read the headers above from those files in October 2026.
In the kit editor, yes. Gimkit says you can mark as many answers correct as you like by clicking the check next to each one. The spreadsheet template has a single Correct Answer column, though, so a multiple answer question needs its extra correct options set by hand in the editor after the import.
Yes. Gimkit calls them Text Input questions. You can make any question in a kit a Text Input question by opening it in the editor and choosing Text Input as the question type at the upper right, then entering the question and the answer students must type.
The Gimkit Pro FAQ lists $59.88 billed once a year or $14.99 billed monthly for one teacher, and every new Educator account starts with a 14 day Pro trial. Gimkit Groups licenses cost $650 a year for a department of up to 20 teachers and $1,000 a year for a whole school, and Groups is the only plan that takes purchase orders.
Running more than one game platform? The same generated set also goes into Blooket through its CSV template and into Wayground through its import spreadsheet, so one upload can feed every tool your students use.
