DP-700 is Implementing Data Engineering Solutions Using Microsoft Fabric, and it earns the Fabric Data Engineer Associate certification. It is the exam standing where DP-203 used to stand. DP-203 retired on March 31, 2025. DP-700 has three domains, and every one of them is worth 30 to 35 percent: implement and manage an analytics solution, ingest and transform data, and monitor and optimize an analytics solution. Skills are stamped as of July 21, 2026. You need 700 out of 1000. The single most useful fact about this exam: it is the flattest Microsoft blueprint we have measured, so unlike almost every other Microsoft exam, there is no low-weight domain you can safely skip.

Last updated July 2026

DP-700 has no easy third. That is the whole story of this exam.

Almost every Microsoft exam has a shape you can exploit. There is a fat domain worth 40 percent or more that deserves most of your time, and a thin one worth 10 percent that you can cover in an evening and accept losing a few points on. Experienced candidates plan around that shape. DP-700 does not have one.

Exam Biggest domain Smallest domain Spread
DP-700 (live)30 to 35%30 to 35%Flat. No weak spot is safe.
DP-203 (retired)40 to 45%10 to 15%One dominant domain to target
DP-600 (live)45 to 50%25 to 30%Prepare data is half the paper
AB-900 (live)35 to 40%25 to 30%Governance-led

Three domains, three identical weights. Whatever you are weakest at is worth about a third of your score, and there is no fat domain to over-index on to make up for it. If streaming makes you nervous, you cannot trade it away by being excellent at pipelines, because monitoring and optimization is sitting there worth just as much as both.

The practical consequence is that DP-700 rewards even, broad coverage more than any other exam in the Microsoft data track. Build your question bank to hit all three domains in roughly equal proportion rather than front-loading the one you enjoy. You can generate practice questions from your own Fabric notes and deliberately split them into thirds.

DP-700 skills measured, straight from Microsoft's study guide

Three domains, equal weight. The third one is the one candidates coming from older data exams never see coming.

Domain What is actually in it Weight
Implement and manage an analytics solutionFabric workspace settings (Spark, domain, OneLake, and Apache Airflow), lifecycle management (version control, database projects, deployment pipelines), and security and governance: workspace, item, row, column, object and folder level access controls, dynamic data masking, sensitivity labels, and OneLake security. Ends with orchestration: choosing between Dataflow Gen2, a pipeline and a notebook.30 to 35%
Ingest and transform dataBoth halves of the job. Batch: loading patterns, full and incremental loads, dimensional modeling prep, OneLake shortcuts, mirroring, and transforming with PySpark, SQL and KQL. Streaming: choosing a streaming engine, Eventstreams, Spark structured streaming, KQL, and windowing functions. Handling duplicate, missing and late-arriving data.30 to 35%
Monitor and optimize an analytics solutionA full third of the exam on operations. Monitor Fabric items, ingestion, transformation and semantic model refresh. Configure alerts. Then identify and resolve errors in pipelines, Dataflow Gen2, notebooks, Eventhouses, Eventstreams, T-SQL and OneLake shortcuts. Then optimize lakehouse tables, pipelines, the warehouse, Eventstreams, Spark and queries.30 to 35%

Look hard at that third row. Microsoft is giving a third of a data engineering certification to monitoring, troubleshooting and performance tuning, and it lists the error types by name. That is not a topic you can absorb from a video course. It is the part of the job you only learn by having a pipeline fail at 3am, which is exactly why it is worth practicing with question-and-answer drilling rather than reading.

Weights and bullets are current as of the study-guide version stamped July 21, 2026. In the July 21 refresh, every bold functional group on DP-700 is marked "No change" in Microsoft's own change log. Only sub-skills are marked "Minor." Microsoft publishes no question count for DP-700 and no pass rate for any exam. Its general guidance is that most exams contain 40 to 60 questions. The passing score is 700 on a scale of 1 to 1000, and Microsoft notes a scaled score may not equal 70 percent of the points.

A DP-203 question bank is worthless here, and you can prove it by counting words

DP-203 and DP-700 certify the same job title. They barely share a technology. We counted the terms in the skills-measured section of both official outlines, and the result is not a revision, it is an inversion.

Term in the official skills outline DP-203 (retired) DP-700 (live) What it tells you
Azure Synapse80The subject of the old exam is not mentioned once on the new one
Fabric04The subject of the new exam did not appear on the old one
Stream Analytics30Replaced by Eventstreams and Spark structured streaming
Dedicated SQL pool10Gone with Synapse
Eventstream03The new streaming ingestion path
KQL03A query language DP-203 never asked for
OneLake07The most-mentioned product noun on DP-700
Lakehouse01New storage model
Spark54The only real survivor. Spark knowledge carries over.

Eight mentions to zero. Azure Synapse Analytics was the spine of DP-203, and DP-700 does not name it a single time. Meanwhile OneLake, which DP-203 had never heard of, is now the most frequently named product in the outline at seven mentions. If you study Synapse for DP-700 you are studying a product the exam has erased.

This matters more than it should, because DP-203 question banks are still being sold today, for an exam that stopped being available in March 2025. The word "dumps" is one of the most common things people type after "DP-700," and a good share of what is on sale under that name is recycled DP-203 content. The single safest DP-700 bank is one built from the current study guide and your own notes, which is the entire reason this page exists.

How to build DP-700 practice questions that match the real blueprint

Fabric moves fast and the exam moves with it. Build from current material, and split your bank into equal thirds because the exam does.

1
Upload current material
The DP-700 study guide, Microsoft Learn Fabric modules, or your own workspace notes. Nothing that predates Fabric.
2
Split your bank in thirds
Equal weights mean equal practice. One third implement, one third ingest and transform, one third monitor and optimize.
3
Drill the "choose between" bullets
The outline repeatedly says choose between Dataflow Gen2, a pipeline and a notebook, or between streaming engines. Those are scenario questions. Practice them as scenarios.
4
Do not skip the error list
Microsoft names seven error types it will test: pipeline, Dataflow Gen2, notebook, Eventhouse, Eventstream, T-SQL and OneLake shortcut. Write a question for each.

Should you take DP-700?

Microsoft's data track was rebuilt end to end. DP-203 retired in March 2025 and DP-100, the Azure Data Scientist exam, is now retired too. If your certification plan was written before Fabric existed, it needs rewriting. Here is the honest read by situation.

Your situation What to do
You were studying for DP-203Stop and switch. You cannot sit DP-203, it retired on March 31, 2025. Keep your Spark, SQL and dimensional modeling knowledge, which all carry over. Drop Synapse, Stream Analytics and dedicated SQL pools entirely, and learn OneLake, Eventstreams and the Fabric workspace model.
You build the pipelinesDP-700 is your exam. It is the engineering paper: ingestion, transformation, orchestration, monitoring and optimization.
You build the models and reportsTake DP-600 instead, the Fabric Analytics Engineer exam. It is semantic models, DAX and Power BI. The word "semantic model" appears 11 times in DP-600 and once in DP-700.
You are new to data on AzureStart with DP-900, the data fundamentals exam. It is confirmed at $99 in Microsoft's pricing feed and has no prerequisite. Note that "Azure Synapse" now appears zero times there too.
You want to do bothTake DP-700 first. Its ingest and transform domain covers the lakehouse and warehouse groundwork that DP-600's "prepare data" domain (45 to 50 percent of that paper) then builds semantic models on top of.

DP-700 questions, answered

What is Exam DP-700?
DP-700 is Implementing Data Engineering Solutions Using Microsoft Fabric. It earns the Microsoft Certified: Fabric Data Engineer Associate certification. It is the live Fabric data engineering exam and the successor to DP-203, the Azure Data Engineer exam that retired on March 31, 2025. Its skills are stamped as of July 21, 2026.
Did DP-700 replace DP-203?
Yes. DP-203, Data Engineering on Microsoft Azure, retired on March 31, 2025, and the Fabric Data Engineer Associate certification earned through DP-700 is the data engineering credential Microsoft now offers. The two exams share a job title and almost no technology. Azure Synapse Analytics, which DP-203 named 8 times, appears zero times in the DP-700 outline.
What are the DP-700 domain weights?
All three domains carry the same weight, 30 to 35 percent each. Implement and manage an analytics solution is 30 to 35 percent, ingest and transform data is 30 to 35 percent, and monitor and optimize an analytics solution is 30 to 35 percent. This is the flattest Microsoft exam blueprint we have measured, which means there is no low-weight domain you can safely skip.
Is DP-700 hard?
It is hard in an unusual way. The content is not conceptually brutal, but the blueprint gives you nowhere to hide. Most Microsoft exams have a dominant domain and a small one you can under-prepare. DP-700 splits evenly in thirds, so a weak area costs you roughly a third of the paper. It also spans batch, streaming and operations, which are three genuinely different skill sets.
How much does the DP-700 exam cost?
Microsoft does not list DP-700 in its published exam pricing feed, so no honest source can quote you a confirmed DP-700 fee. Associate-level Azure exams have generally been $165 in the United States, so that is the reasonable expectation, but confirm the price at checkout before you book. Treat any site stating a firm DP-700 price as guessing.
How many questions are on the DP-700 exam?
Microsoft publishes no question count for DP-700, and it publishes no pass rate for any of its exams. Its general guidance is that most exams contain 40 to 60 questions. The passing score is 700 on a scale of 1 to 1000, and Microsoft notes that a scaled score may not equal 70 percent of the points. Any site quoting an exact DP-700 question count or a pass percentage invented it.
Should I take DP-700 or DP-600?
Take DP-700 if you build the pipelines and DP-600 if you build the models. DP-700 is engineering: Spark, notebooks, eventstreams, orchestration and monitoring. DP-600 is analytics: semantic models, DAX and Power BI. The phrase "semantic model" appears 11 times in the DP-600 outline and once in DP-700. The word "monitor" appears 6 times in DP-700 and zero times in DP-600.
Is a DP-203 question bank still useful for DP-700?
No, and this is the most expensive mistake people make. DP-203 banks are still being sold for an exam that has been dead since March 2025. Their core subject, Azure Synapse Analytics, appears zero times in DP-700. Stream Analytics and dedicated SQL pools are gone too. Roughly the only thing that carried over is Spark, which drops from 5 mentions to 4.
