- What is Exam DP-700?
- DP-700 is Implementing Data Engineering Solutions Using Microsoft Fabric. It earns the Microsoft Certified: Fabric Data Engineer Associate certification. It is the live Fabric data engineering exam and the successor to DP-203, the Azure Data Engineer exam that retired on March 31, 2025. Its skills are stamped as of July 21, 2026.
- Did DP-700 replace DP-203?
- Yes. DP-203, Data Engineering on Microsoft Azure, retired on March 31, 2025, and the Fabric Data Engineer Associate certification earned through DP-700 is the data engineering credential Microsoft now offers. The two exams share a job title and almost no technology. Azure Synapse Analytics, which DP-203 named 8 times, appears zero times in the DP-700 outline.
- What are the DP-700 domain weights?
- All three domains carry the same weight, 30 to 35 percent each. Implement and manage an analytics solution is 30 to 35 percent, ingest and transform data is 30 to 35 percent, and monitor and optimize an analytics solution is 30 to 35 percent. This is the flattest Microsoft exam blueprint we have measured, which means there is no low-weight domain you can safely skip.
- Is DP-700 hard?
- It is hard in an unusual way. The content is not conceptually brutal, but the blueprint gives you nowhere to hide. Most Microsoft exams have a dominant domain and a small one you can under-prepare. DP-700 splits evenly in thirds, so a weak area costs you roughly a third of the paper. It also spans batch, streaming and operations, which are three genuinely different skill sets.
- How much does the DP-700 exam cost?
- Microsoft does not list DP-700 in its published exam pricing feed, so no honest source can quote you a confirmed DP-700 fee. Associate-level Azure exams have generally been $165 in the United States, so that is the reasonable expectation, but confirm the price at checkout before you book. Treat any site stating a firm DP-700 price as guessing.
- How many questions are on the DP-700 exam?
- Microsoft publishes no question count for DP-700, and it publishes no pass rate for any of its exams. Its general guidance is that most exams contain 40 to 60 questions. The passing score is 700 on a scale of 1 to 1000, and Microsoft notes that a scaled score may not equal 70 percent of the points. Any site quoting an exact DP-700 question count or a pass percentage invented it.
- Should I take DP-700 or DP-600?
- Take DP-700 if you build the pipelines and DP-600 if you build the models. DP-700 is engineering: Spark, notebooks, eventstreams, orchestration and monitoring. DP-600 is analytics: semantic models, DAX and Power BI. The phrase "semantic model" appears 11 times in the DP-600 outline and once in DP-700. The word "monitor" appears 6 times in DP-700 and zero times in DP-600.
- Is a DP-203 question bank still useful for DP-700?
- No, and this is the most expensive mistake people make. DP-203 banks are still being sold for an exam that has been dead since March 2025. Their core subject, Azure Synapse Analytics, appears zero times in DP-700. Stream Analytics and dedicated SQL pools are gone too. Roughly the only thing that carried over is Spark, which drops from 5 mentions to 4.
