DP-600 is Implementing Analytics Solutions Using Microsoft Fabric, and it earns the Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate certification. It is the analytics and modeling exam of the Fabric track, the counterpart to the data engineering exam DP-700. DP-600 has three domains, and one of them dominates: Prepare data is worth 45 to 50 percent, nearly half the paper, while Implement and manage semantic models and Maintain a data analytics solution are 25 to 30 percent each. Skills are stamped as of July 21, 2026. You need 700 out of 1000. The single most useful fact: DP-600 lives in semantic models, DAX and Power BI, so if your job is reports and models rather than pipelines, this is your exam, not DP-700.

Prepare data is half of DP-600. Study accordingly.

DP-600 has a shape you can exploit, and it is the opposite of DP-700's flat blueprint. One domain, Prepare data, is worth 45 to 50 percent on its own. The other two split the rest. That means a candidate who is strong at getting and transforming data in Fabric is already halfway to a passing score, and someone who neglects it cannot make the points up anywhere else.

Exam Biggest domain Smallest domain Where to spend your time
DP-600 (live)45 to 50%25 to 30%Prepare data, nearly half the paper
DP-700 (live)30 to 35%30 to 35%Flat. No weak spot is safe.
DP-900 (live)25 to 30%15 to 20%Fundamentals, evenly spread
DP-500 (retired)n/an/aReplaced by the Fabric-era DP-600

Build your question bank to match that shape. Roughly half your DP-600 practice questions should sit inside Prepare data: getting data, choosing between data stores, OneLake integration, and transforming with views, functions, stored procedures and DAX. You can generate practice questions from your own Fabric notes and deliberately weight them toward that domain.

DP-600 skills measured, straight from Microsoft's study guide

Three domains, one clear leader. The governance and lifecycle bullets in the Maintain domain are where working Power BI users lose points.

Domain What is actually in it Weight
Prepare dataThe core of the exam. Get data: create a data connection, discover data with the OneLake catalog and the Real-Time hub, ingest or access data, choose between different data stores, and set up OneLake integration for Eventhouse and semantic models. Transform data: create views, functions and stored procedures, enrich and denormalize, aggregate and filter, and query using SQL, KQL and DAX.45 to 50%
Implement and manage semantic modelsDesign and build storage: choose between a star schema, denormalized and other structures, choose a storage mode, choose between Direct Lake and other modes, and design relationships. Then create model calculations with DAX, and optimize enterprise-scale semantic models for performance, size and refresh.25 to 30%
Maintain a data analytics solutionSecurity and governance: workspace, item, row, column, object and file level access controls, sensitivity labels and endorsing items. Then the analytics development lifecycle: version control, a Power BI Desktop project (.pbip), deployment pipelines, impact analysis of downstream dependencies, the XMLA endpoint, and reusable assets like .pbit templates, .pbids data source files and shared semantic models.25 to 30%

The trap for report builders is the third row. Plenty of people who write DAX every day have never configured a deployment pipeline, published through the XMLA endpoint, or set up row-level and object-level security. Microsoft names all of those by hand, so they are on the paper. Practice them with question-and-answer drilling rather than assuming your day job covered them.

Weights and bullets are current as of the study-guide version stamped July 21, 2026. Microsoft publishes no question count for DP-600 and no pass rate for any exam. Its general guidance is that most exams contain 40 to 60 questions. The passing score is 700 on a scale of 1 to 1000, and Microsoft notes a scaled score may not equal 70 percent of the points.

DP-600 or DP-700? The word counts settle it

Both exams sit inside Microsoft Fabric and both are associate-level, so people mix them up. They test two different jobs. DP-600 is the analytics engineer who builds semantic models and reports. DP-700 is the data engineer who builds the pipelines that feed them. We counted the terms in both official outlines, and the split is clean.

Term in the official skills outline DP-600 (analytics) DP-700 (engineering) What it tells you
Semantic model111DP-600 is the modeling exam. This is its whole identity.
Monitor06Operations is a DP-700 concern, not a DP-600 one
DAX30Calculation language lives on DP-600
Power BI30Reporting is DP-600 territory
Eventstream03Streaming ingestion is a DP-700 job
Notebook04Notebook-based transforms belong to DP-700
Azure Synapse00Erased from both. It is a Fabric world now.

The rule is simple. If your title is analytics engineer, BI developer or report author, DP-600 is the exam that matches your job, and its semantic-model, DAX and Power BI weighting reflects that. If you build ingestion and transformation pipelines, take DP-700 instead. They overlap only in the Prepare data groundwork, which is why doing DP-700 first makes the Prepare data domain here feel like revision.

How to build DP-600 practice questions that match the real blueprint

Fabric moves fast and the exam moves with it. Build from current material, and weight your bank toward Prepare data because the exam does.

1
Upload current material
The DP-600 study guide, Microsoft Learn Fabric analytics modules, or your own semantic-model and workspace notes. Nothing that predates Fabric.
2
Weight toward Prepare data
Nearly half the paper is Prepare data, so nearly half your bank should be too: getting data, choosing data stores, OneLake integration and transforming.
3
Drill the "choose between" bullets
The outline repeatedly asks you to choose between storage modes, between Direct Lake and other modes, and between data stores. Those are scenario questions. Practice them as scenarios.
4
Do not skip governance
Deployment pipelines, the XMLA endpoint, row and column level security and sensitivity labels are all named. Write a question for each even if your day job never touches them.

Should you take DP-600?

Microsoft's data track was rebuilt around Fabric. DP-500, the old enterprise data analyst exam, retired, and DP-600 is the analytics associate exam that replaced it. Here is the honest read by situation.

Your situation What to do
You build reports and semantic modelsDP-600 is your exam. It is the analytics engineer credential: semantic models, DAX, Power BI, and the governance around them.
You build the pipelines that feed the modelsTake DP-700 instead, the Fabric Data Engineer exam. It is ingestion, Spark, eventstreams, orchestration and monitoring.
You are new to data on AzureStart with DP-900, the data fundamentals exam. It is confirmed at $99 in Microsoft's pricing feed and has no prerequisite.
You mostly write DAX and build Power BI reportsYou may also want the Power BI data analyst exam, PL-300. DP-600 is the more advanced, Fabric-centric step above it.
You want both Fabric associate certsTake DP-700 first. Its ingest and transform domain covers the lakehouse and warehouse groundwork that DP-600's Prepare data domain then builds semantic models on top of.

DP-600 questions, answered

What is Exam DP-600?
DP-600 is Implementing Analytics Solutions Using Microsoft Fabric. It earns the Microsoft Certified: Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate certification. It is the analytics and modeling exam of the Microsoft Fabric track, built around semantic models, DAX and Power BI rather than pipelines. Its skills are stamped as of July 21, 2026.
What are the DP-600 domain weights?
DP-600 has three domains and they are not evenly weighted. Prepare data is 45 to 50 percent, so nearly half the exam. Implement and manage semantic models is 25 to 30 percent, and Maintain a data analytics solution is 25 to 30 percent. Unlike DP-700, DP-600 has a clear dominant domain you should spend most of your time on.
What is the difference between DP-600 and DP-700?
DP-600 is analytics engineering and DP-700 is data engineering. DP-600 is about semantic models, DAX and Power BI reporting. DP-700 is about ingestion, Spark, eventstreams, orchestration and monitoring. The phrase "semantic model" appears 11 times in the DP-600 outline and once in DP-700. The word "monitor" appears zero times in DP-600 and six times in DP-700.
Is DP-600 hard?
DP-600 is manageable if you already work in Power BI, because nearly half the exam, the Prepare data domain, is the daily job of getting and shaping data in Fabric. The harder parts are the governance and lifecycle bullets in the Maintain domain: deployment pipelines, the XMLA endpoint, row and column level security and sensitivity labels, which many Power BI users have never touched.
How much does the DP-600 exam cost?
Microsoft does not list DP-600 in its published exam pricing feed, so no honest source can quote you a confirmed DP-600 fee. Associate-level exams have generally been $165 in the United States, so that is the reasonable expectation, but confirm the price at checkout before you book. Treat any site stating a firm DP-600 price as guessing.
How many questions are on the DP-600 exam?
Microsoft publishes no question count for DP-600, and it publishes no pass rate for any of its exams. Its general guidance is that most exams contain 40 to 60 questions. The passing score is 700 on a scale of 1 to 1000, and Microsoft notes that a scaled score may not equal 70 percent of the points. Any site quoting an exact DP-600 question count or a pass percentage invented it.
Should I take DP-600 or DP-700 first?
Take DP-700 first if you want to do both, because its ingest and transform domain covers the lakehouse and warehouse groundwork that DP-600's Prepare data domain then builds semantic models on top of. If you only build reports and models and never touch pipelines, skip straight to DP-600.
Is a DP-500 question bank still useful for DP-600?
Only loosely. DP-500, the older Azure Enterprise Data Analyst exam, retired, and DP-600 is the current Fabric-era analytics associate exam. Your DAX and semantic-modeling knowledge carries over, but DP-600 is built around Fabric-specific concepts like OneLake, the OneLake catalog and Fabric deployment pipelines that a DP-500 bank will not cover.
