Quiz Generator: Make a Quiz From Any PDF, Free to Start

PDFQuiz is a quiz generator that reads your material and writes the questions for you. Upload a PDF, a Word document, a slide deck, a text file or a photo of a page, and the AI turns it into a quiz with single choice, multiple answer, true or false, fill in the blank, matching and open-ended questions, each with the correct answer and a short explanation. Your first 5-question quiz is free and needs no account. With a free account you can make three full quizzes, share them by link and study the same questions as flashcards.

Your files are processed securely and deleted automatically after the quiz is built.

The short answer

A quiz generator takes a document you already have and writes the quiz for you. With PDFQuiz you upload the file, the AI reads it and returns questions with an answer key and explanations, and you edit whatever you want before you use it. The first quiz is free and needs no account. Six question types, 16 file formats, up to 10 files per upload, and the quiz comes out in the language of your document. If your source is always a PDF, the PDF to quiz converter page goes deeper on that workflow.

What the quiz generator produces

One upload, several outputs

The generator does not stop at a list of questions. From one document it builds an online quiz you can take or share, a flashcard set from the same questions, and, on paid plans, a printable PDF with the answer key and an Anki export.

Online quiz with grading

Take the quiz yourself or send one link to a class or a team. Each attempt is scored automatically, and the correct answer and explanation show after every question. Results land in your dashboard.

Flashcards from the same questions

Every quiz can be studied as flashcards: question on the front, answer and explanation on the back, with cards sorted into unseen, review and known. See the flashcard maker for details.

Printable quiz and answer key

Download the quiz as a PDF with a separate answer key for paper tests and handouts. Available on paid plans.

Anki export for spaced repetition

Export the questions as an Anki deck and review them on a schedule. Available on paid plans. The Anki flashcard generator page explains the format.

How it works

Three steps from file to quiz

1

Upload your material

A PDF, Word document, PowerPoint, text file or a photo of a page. Up to 10 files at once when one topic is spread across several handouts.

2

Choose the shape of the quiz

With an account, pick the number of questions, the question types, the difficulty and, on paid plans, the output language. The demo on this page uses 5 single-choice questions.

3

Review, then use it

Edit or remove any question, then take the quiz, share the link, switch to flashcards or download it. Every question stays tied to a passage in your file.

Who uses it

Students, teachers and trainers

Students

Turn a chapter or lecture notes into a practice quiz before an exam. Testing yourself beats rereading, and the explanations tell you why an answer is right. The student page shows the study flow.

Teachers

Build a quiz from the material you actually assigned, hand it out by link, and read the scores in one place. The quiz maker for teachers covers timers, shuffling and results.

Trainers and companies

Check that a policy, a manual or an onboarding deck was read and understood. One link per group, scores per person. See the compliance training quiz generator.

Quiz generator: frequently asked questions

Is PDFQuiz free?
Yes, to start. You can generate a 5-question quiz from any PDF without creating an account. A free account adds 3 full quizzes of 10 questions each. Paid plans start at $5 a month billed yearly and remove the limits.
Do I need an account to make a quiz?
No. The first quiz runs without signing up. You need a free account to save a quiz, share it by link, study it as flashcards or keep your results.
How many questions can I generate from one PDF?
The demo without an account writes 5 questions. A free account makes 10-question quizzes from the first 5 pages of a document. Paid plans let you set the number yourself: up to 300 questions per quiz on Plus, 500 on Pro and 1,000 on Elite.
What question types can it create?
Six: single choice (A, B, C, D), multiple answer, true or false, fill in the blank, matching and open ended. Every question comes with the correct answer marked and a short explanation. Open-ended questions are available on the Pro plan and up.
What files can I upload?
16 formats: PDF, DOC, DOCX, PPT, PPTX, ODT, ODP, RTF, TXT, JPG, JPEG, PNG, HEIC, BMP, TIF and TIFF. You can upload up to 10 files at once, 20 MB each. Scanned pages and photos are read with OCR.
What do I get out of it?
An online quiz you can take yourself or share by link, and a flashcard set built from the same questions. Depending on the plan you can also download the quiz as a PDF with the answer key or export it to Anki.
Which languages does it support?
The quiz is written in the language of your document. On paid plans you can pick a different output language from a list of more than 180. The site itself is available in 28 languages, including Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Turkish and Arabic.
How does the quiz generator work?
Upload a document and the AI reads it from the first page to the last, picks out the facts, terms and ideas worth testing, and writes questions with the correct answer marked and a short explanation for each one. You review the draft, edit or delete anything you disagree with, then take the quiz, share it by link or download it. The whole run takes seconds for a handout and about a minute for a long chapter.
Can I generate a quiz from a PDF without signing up?
Yes. The generator on this page writes a 5-question quiz from any PDF, Word file, slide deck, text file or photo without an account. Create a free account when you want to save the quiz, share it or make longer ones.
Can I edit the questions the generator writes?
Yes. Every question, answer option, correct answer and explanation is editable, and any question can be deleted. The AI gives you a first draft grounded in your document; you decide what ends up in the final quiz. Question editing is part of the Pro plan.
Can students take the quiz online?
Yes. Generate a link, send it to your class or team, and each person takes the quiz on their own device. You see every answer and score in your dashboard. A timer per question and shuffled question order are available for live tests. Sharing by link is part of the Pro plan.
Is the quiz generator accurate?
Questions are drawn from the text of the file you upload, not from general knowledge about the topic, so accuracy is high for clear, text-based documents. Scanned pages and photos are read with OCR, and a clean scan gives the same result as a born-digital PDF. You can review and edit every question before you use it.
