Why look for a ProProfs alternative

A quiz-first tool, not a full platform to configure

ProProfs Quiz Maker is a capable assessment platform, and teams that run proctored exams, issue certificates and track learners across courses get a lot from it. People searching for a ProProfs alternative usually want something narrower: a tool that takes a document and gives back a real quiz or graded test, with the question types they need, an answer key, and a clean PDF or Word file at the end. No portal to set up, no per-seat plan to size, no features to switch off. That is the whole job PDFQuiz, a document-first online test maker, is built for.

Built around your documents

Start from a PDF textbook chapter, a Word study guide, a PowerPoint lecture or a photo of handwritten notes. PDFQuiz reads the source and writes questions from that exact content, so the test matches your material rather than a generic library item. If your source is a scanned manual or photographed pages, upload the scan or photo as it is. Pages are read visually, so AI document OCR is optional here and mainly earns its place when a scan is poor enough that you want to proofread the recovered text first.

Nothing to set up

There is no portal to configure, no learner accounts to provision and no plan tiers to study before you start. Upload a file, pick the question type, and you have a finished test in under a minute. The setup time that a full assessment platform asks for is gone.

Printable PDF and Word export

Hand out a printed test, post it online, or drop it into your own LMS. Export a polished PDF or an editable Word document, with or without an answer key, in one click. The quiz is a file you own, not content locked inside a hosted portal.

Every common question type

Generate single choice, multiple answer, true or false, fill in the blank, matching and open ended questions. Pick the format that suits a quick knowledge check or a graded exam, then edit any question before you share it.

PowerPoint, Word and images

Upload slide decks, Word files, plain text and images directly alongside PDFs, so you rarely have to convert or retype a file before you can build a test from it. The format you already have is the format that works.

For trainers, teachers and HR

Corporate trainers turn decks and manuals into knowledge checks, teachers turn chapters into graded tests, and HR teams build screening questions from a role brief. You get the assessment without committing to a platform you have to run.

How PDFQuiz and ProProfs compare

An honest, side-by-side look so you can pick the right fit. Both use AI and both can build a quiz from a document. The difference is scope: a focused quiz and test maker versus a full assessment and training platform.

Simple process

From document to test in three steps

1

Upload your file

Drag in a PDF, Word document, PowerPoint deck, text file or image of your notes. Choose the page range if you only need part of it.

2

Generate the questions

Pick the question type and how many questions you want. The AI reads the document and writes questions with answers in seconds.

3

Edit, share or export

Review and tweak any question, then share a link for online taking or export a clean PDF or Word file to print and hand out.

Who switches to PDFQuiz

If your work ends with a quiz or test you can hand out, rather than a hosted assessment portal, this is the ProProfs alternative built for you.

Corporate trainers

Convert onboarding decks, compliance manuals and product sheets into knowledge checks. Confirm that staff understood the material without configuring a learning platform or writing every question by hand. Once everyone passes, collect a signed acknowledgment with an online document signing tool so the completion record is on file.

Teachers and professors

Turn a textbook chapter or lesson PDF into a graded test, export it with an answer key, and assign or print it for a class. Build a whole unit's worth of assessments in an afternoon instead of a week.

HR and hiring teams

Build a screening quiz from a job brief, a policy document or a product sheet, then send it or print it. Get a fair, content-based check without standing up a full hiring assessment system.

Frequently asked questions about the ProProfs alternative

What is the best ProProfs alternative?

For teams that mainly need to turn documents into quizzes and tests, PDFQuiz is the strongest ProProfs alternative. It reads a PDF, Word file, PowerPoint deck or image, writes questions from that exact content, and exports a clean PDF or editable Word file with an answer key. ProProfs is a broad assessment and training platform with proctoring, certificates and reporting, so a focused document-to-quiz maker is a better fit when you just want fast questions from your own material.

Is there a free alternative to ProProfs Quiz Maker?

Yes. PDFQuiz is a free ProProfs alternative you can try without a subscription. Upload a document, generate a quiz and see the question quality before you pay. ProProfs offers a limited free tier as well, but most of its business and assessment features sit behind paid plans, so the right pick depends on whether you need a full platform or a quick quiz generator.

What is ProProfs Quiz Maker used for?

ProProfs Quiz Maker is an online assessment platform used for training, compliance, hiring, certification and lead generation. It includes a large question library, proctoring and anti-cheating controls, graded reports, certificates and integrations, so it suits organizations that run formal assessments at scale. PDFQuiz focuses on a narrower job: turning your uploaded documents into quizzes and tests you can edit, share and export.

How is PDFQuiz different from ProProfs?

ProProfs is a full assessment suite where quiz creation sits alongside proctoring, certificates, learner tracking and a hosted test portal. PDFQuiz does one thing: it turns a PDF, Word file or slide deck into a quiz or graded test with multiple choice, true or false, fill in the blank, matching and open ended questions, then exports a clean PDF or editable Word document. There is no platform to configure, so you get from a document to a finished test in under a minute.

Does ProProfs create quizzes from a PDF?

Yes, ProProfs can import documents like PDFs and presentations and use AI to help build a quiz from them. If your main need is generating questions straight from your source files, with control over the question type, page range, an answer key and a printable PDF or editable Word export, a dedicated tool like PDFQuiz is built for that exact workflow without the rest of the platform.

Can I make a printable test, not host it on a portal?

Yes. PDFQuiz exports a polished PDF or an editable Word document, with or without an answer key, so you can print a test, email it, or drop it into your own LMS. ProProfs is built around hosting and delivering assessments on its own portal, so PDFQuiz is the better fit when you want a file you own rather than a quiz that lives inside another platform.
