The Salesforce Data Cloud Consultant certification, now officially called Data 360 Consultant, is worth it if your work touches customer data unification, segmentation, or grounding data for AI agents. It signals a specialist skill that is in short supply and getting more valuable as Agentforce adoption grows. It is less worth it if you are early in your Salesforce career or your role never goes near the data platform, in which case the Administrator credential is a better first step.
This exam validates that you can implement and consult on Salesforce Data 360, the platform formerly called Data Cloud and, before that, the Customer Data Platform. Passing it says you can connect and ingest data sources, harmonize records into unified profiles through identity resolution, build calculated insights, and activate segments into Salesforce and other channels. That is a narrower and deeper skill than a general admin certification, and it maps to real, well-paid implementation work.
Two trends push demand. First, companies are consolidating fragmented customer data, and Data 360 is Salesforce's answer for that. Second, and more importantly for 2026, Data 360 is the grounding layer for Agentforce. An AI agent is only as trustworthy as the data it reasons over, so every serious Agentforce deployment needs someone who understands unification and activation. That overlap is why the Agentforce Specialist exam dedicates a full fifth of its content to Data 360 fundamentals. A consultant who holds both credentials covers the agent and the data behind it.
It is a consultant-level exam: 60 scored questions, 105 minutes, US$200 to register and US$100 to retake, with no prerequisite certification. The six-domain outline weights activation and ingestion most heavily, reflecting where implementations actually succeed or fail.
| Domain | Weight |
|---|---|
| Data Activations and Utilization | 20% |
| Data Source Connection and Ingestion | 18% |
| Data Enhancements, Sharing, and Analysis | 18% |
| Harmonization and Unification | 17% |
| Solution Positioning | 14% |
| Data 360 Setup and Administration | 13% |
One honesty note on the passing score: Salesforce does not headline a fixed percentage, and figures online conflict, ranging from about 62 to 70 percent. Confirm the current number in the official exam guide rather than planning around an unverified figure.
If you are researching this credential, you will hit three names for the same thing: CDP Consultant, Data Cloud Consultant, and now Data 360 Consultant. Salesforce renamed the product and the credential to Data 360 in March 2026, keeping the exam code Data-Con-101. Buyers still search "Data Cloud Consultant" far more than "Data 360 Consultant," so the older name is not wrong, just outdated. The practical tell for stale study material is a five-domain outline. The current guide has six.
Salesforce has several consultant credentials, and they are not interchangeable. The Sales Cloud and Service Cloud consultant exams both require the Administrator certification first and focus on configuring a specific cloud. The Data 360 Consultant is different in two ways: it has no prerequisite, and it is about a horizontal data platform rather than a single cloud. That makes it a good fit for people whose work spans clouds or who sit closer to data and architecture than to a single business function. If you are choosing between them, pick the one that matches the work in front of you. There is little value in the Data 360 Consultant if you spend your days configuring cases, and little value in the Service Cloud Consultant if you spend them modeling and unifying customer data.
Certifications do not set salaries on their own, but they do gate conversations. For data-platform and Agentforce-adjacent roles, the Data 360 Consultant is increasingly the credential that gets a resume past a first screen, because it is specific evidence of a scarce skill. Its value is highest for people already working in the Salesforce ecosystem who want to move toward data and AI work, and for independent consultants who need a verifiable way to prove Data 360 capability to prospects. The honest framing is that it accelerates a direction you are already heading, rather than creating a career from nothing.
If you are new to Salesforce, start with the Administrator certification, which is the foundation employers expect. If your role is purely development or pure business analysis with no data-platform work, your time is better spent on credentials closer to your day job. The Data 360 Consultant pays off when you are actually implementing or consulting on customer data, not as a resume-filler.
For consulting firms and internal platform teams, yes, and the value compounds. As more clients ask for Agentforce, the ability to say you have certified Data 360 specialists becomes a differentiator. Organizations that want to train and certify their whole team on a consistent standard often pair certification tracks with hands-on labs so the credential reflects real capability, not just exam recall.
Salesforce recommends hands-on experience implementing and consulting on enterprise data platforms in a customer-facing role, and that recommendation is worth taking seriously even though nothing enforces it. This is not an exam you can pass on theory alone. The questions describe real implementation situations, connecting a source, resolving conflicting records into one profile, deciding where to activate a segment, and the right answer often depends on tradeoffs you only appreciate after doing the work. If you have never touched Data 360, spend time in a trial org actually ingesting data and configuring match rules before you book. Six months of real exposure will teach you more than any amount of reading, and it turns the harmonization and activation domains, which carry the most weight, from abstract concepts into things you have actually done.
Weight your study toward the four back-end domains, activation, ingestion, enhancements, and unification, which carry 73 percent of the exam between them. Identity resolution and match rules are the single biggest source of missed questions, so spend real time there. Turn your own implementation notes into practice questions with the Data Cloud Consultant practice exam generator, and drill by domain so you can see exactly where you stand before you book.
