The AWS Certified DevOps Engineer Professional exam (code DOP-C02) has 75 questions, of which 65 are scored, runs 180 minutes, costs 300 US dollars, and needs 750 on a 100 to 1,000 scaled range to pass. There is no formal prerequisite, though AWS recommends two or more years running AWS environments plus scripting experience. The six domains are SDLC Automation (22%), Configuration Management and Infrastructure as Code (17%), Security and Compliance (17%), Resilient Cloud Solutions (15%), Monitoring and Logging (15%), and Incident and Event Response (14%). CI/CD automation carries the most weight.

Last updated July 2026

Only 65 of the 75 questions are scored, and 750 is not 75 percent. Two facts trip up candidates and half the prep sites online. First, the DOP-C02 exam shows you 75 questions but scores only 65; the other 10 are unscored pretest items AWS is trialing, and they are not marked, so you treat every question as real. Second, the 750 passing mark is a scaled score on a 100 to 1,000 range, not a raw percentage. AWS uses compensatory scoring, so a strong domain can offset a weak one, and there is no minimum per domain.

What the AWS DevOps Engineer Professional exam tests

DOP-C02 has six domains, realigned in 2023 to the AWS Well-Architected Framework. The weights are fairly even, but automation and infrastructure as code dominate the top of the table, and security runs through nearly every scenario. Here is what each domain actually asks of you.

Domain Weight What is actually in it
SDLC Automation22%CI/CD pipelines with CodePipeline, CodeBuild, and CodeDeploy, artifact management, testing gates, and deployment strategies like blue/green and canary. The single largest domain.
Configuration Management and IaC17%CloudFormation, the CDK, and reusable templates, plus config drift, Systems Manager, and managing fleets of servers and containers as code.
Security and Compliance17%Automating identity, secrets, and least-privilege access, plus enforcing compliance with Config rules, Security Hub, and GuardDuty inside pipelines.
Resilient Cloud Solutions15%High availability, scaling, multi-Region and multi-AZ design, and disaster recovery patterns that meet a stated RTO and RPO.
Monitoring and Logging15%CloudWatch metrics, logs, and alarms, X-Ray tracing, and building observability that surfaces a problem before customers do.
Incident and Event Response14%Event-driven automation with EventBridge and Lambda, automated remediation, and responding to failures without a human in the loop.

Weights from the official DOP-C02 exam guide, which carries a 2026 copyright, and they total 100 percent. The pre-2023 DOP-C01 exam had five differently named domains, so confirm any study material predates neither.

SDLC Automation and the two 17 percent domains decide most of the score. Generate practice questions from your own AWS DevOps notes so you can measure each domain instead of guessing where the gaps are.

DOP-C02

A professional exam that assumes associate-level fluency

AWS dropped the hard prerequisite years ago, so nothing stops you from booking DOP-C02 first. The exam does not care, but the questions do. They assume you already know how IAM policies, VPC networking, Auto Scaling, and the core compute and storage services behave, then test whether you can automate, secure, and operate them at scale. That is why most people who pass have already sat one or two associate exams.

Come from operations

If you support production AWS workloads, the AWS SysOps Administrator practice exam covers the monitoring, deployment, and automation groundwork DOP-C02 pushes to a professional depth.

Come from development

If you write and ship application code, the AWS Developer Associate practice exam covers the CI/CD and serverless patterns that feed straight into the SDLC Automation domain.

Two or more years of hands-on AWS plus scripting is the experience AWS recommends, and it shows in the wording of the scenarios. Rather than memorize service limits, practice choosing between deployment strategies, remediation patterns, and pipeline designs, which is what the exam actually rewards.

How to build DOP-C02 practice questions that mirror the real exam

The exam is scenario-heavy, so short recall questions will not prepare you. Build sets that force a decision.

1
Weight toward automation
SDLC Automation and IaC are 39 percent combined. Load your question sets with CodePipeline, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, and CloudFormation scenarios first.
2
Turn notes into scenarios
Upload runbooks and architecture notes, and ask for questions that present a goal and several valid-looking approaches, so you practice picking the best fit.
3
Thread security through
Security and Compliance is 17 percent but shows up inside other domains too. Write questions on secrets, least privilege, and automated compliance checks in pipelines.
4
Check the answer key
Every set comes with an answer key and explanation, so review the reasoning, not just the letter. On a scenario exam, the why is what transfers.

AWS DevOps Engineer Professional questions, answered

How many questions are on the AWS DevOps Engineer Professional exam?
The DOP-C02 exam has 75 questions total, but only 65 are scored. The other 10 are unscored pretest items that AWS uses to trial new questions, and they are not identified during the exam, so you answer all 75 as if they count. You get 180 minutes. Many prep sites wrongly say all 75 are scored. Questions are multiple choice and multiple response, with no penalty for guessing.
What is the passing score for DOP-C02?
You need 750 on a scaled range of 100 to 1,000 to pass the AWS Certified DevOps Engineer Professional exam. This is not 75 percent. AWS uses a compensatory scaled model, so the raw number of questions behind 750 shifts with question difficulty, and there is no per-domain pass requirement. Do not treat 750 as a straight percentage of the 65 scored questions.
Is DOP-C02 still the current AWS DevOps exam version?
Yes. DOP-C02 launched on March 7, 2023, replacing DOP-C01, and it is still the current live version as of July 2026. AWS has not announced a DOP-C03 or any retirement date, and the exam guide still carries a 2026 copyright. Any site claiming a DOP-C03 is coming is speculating, because AWS has published no such successor.
Do I need to pass the AWS associate exams first?
No. AWS retired the associate prerequisite years ago, so you can sit DOP-C02 directly. AWS recommends two or more years provisioning and operating AWS environments plus scripting or programming experience. In practice, the SysOps Administrator and Developer Associate exams cover the operational and CI/CD foundations this professional exam builds on, so most candidates take those first.
What does the exam cover?
DOP-C02 has six domains: SDLC Automation (22 percent), Configuration Management and Infrastructure as Code (17 percent), Resilient Cloud Solutions (15 percent), Monitoring and Logging (15 percent), Incident and Event Response (14 percent), and Security and Compliance (17 percent). SDLC Automation is the largest, so CI/CD pipelines with CodePipeline, CodeBuild, and CodeDeploy carry the most weight.
How much does it cost and how long is the certification valid?
The AWS Certified DevOps Engineer Professional exam costs 300 US dollars. The certification is valid for three years, and you recertify by passing the current version of the exam before it expires. Holding an active AWS certification also earns a 50 percent discount voucher toward your next exam. It is delivered at a Pearson VUE test center or online with a proctor.
