The AWS Certified AI Practitioner exam (AIF-C01) is 65 questions in 90 minutes, you need a scaled score of 700 out of 1000 to pass, it costs US$100, and it has no prerequisites. Who the AWS AI Practitioner is for, and what it is not

AIF-C01 is aimed at people who use AI and machine learning on AWS rather than build the models: product managers, business analysts, developers, cloud practitioners, sales and solutions people, and leaders who need to speak fluently about generative AI. AWS recommends up to six months of exposure to AI and ML on AWS, but there is no coding requirement and no prerequisite certification. If you can explain what a foundation model is, when to use Amazon Bedrock, and why responsible AI matters, you are in the target audience.

It is not a deep engineering exam. If you want to prove you can prepare data, train, deploy, and monitor models in production, that is the associate-level AWS Machine Learning Engineer Associate practice exam. Many people earn AI Practitioner first for the concepts and vocabulary, then move up to the associate exam, which also happens to renew the AI Practitioner credential.

What the AWS AI Practitioner exam tests

AIF-C01 is organized into five domains with published weightings. Generative AI and foundation models together make up more than half the exam, so that is where your study hours should concentrate. But responsible AI, security, compliance, and governance carry 28 percent between them, and they are where people who only studied the model topics lose points.
