The Salesforce Advanced Administrator exam is 60 scored questions plus up to 5 unscored, in 105 minutes, with a passing score of 65% and a US$200 registration fee (US$100 to retake). It is now officially called the Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator II, and it is one of the few Salesforce exams with a hard prerequisite: you must already hold the Platform Administrator certification. Seven sections, with Security and Access 20% and Process Automation 20% tied as the largest, then Objects and Applications 19%, Data and Analytics Management 13%, Cloud Applications 11%, Auditing and Monitoring 10%, and Environment Management and Deployment 7%. Maintenance is one free Trailhead badge per year. There is no Agentforce or AI content in the current outline.

What the Advanced Administrator exam tests on the current outline

We read the official exam guide on Salesforce Help, as we do for every cert page on this site. One warning before the table: the PDF study guide floating around developer.salesforce.com is from Winter '19. It still uses the retired "Certified Advanced Administrator" name and lists sections that no longer exist. If your prep material mentions "Extending Custom Objects and Applications" at 8%, it is seven years out of date. The live guide is authoritative, and these are its weights.

Section What is actually in it Weight
Security and AccessThe sharing model at scale: org-wide defaults, role hierarchy, sharing rules, manual and team sharing, territory management, and the judgment calls about when each mechanism is the right tool rather than merely a working one.20%
Process AutomationFlow judgment above all: which automation tool fits a requirement, how to design maintainable flows, approval processes, and troubleshooting automation that interacts badly with itself. Tied with Security and Access as the largest section.20%
Objects and ApplicationsAdvanced object relationships, record types, page layouts and Lightning record pages, and the schema decisions that either scale or become technical debt.19%
Data and Analytics ManagementData quality and governance, import and export tooling, mass data operations, plus reports, dashboards, and reporting snapshots.13%
Cloud ApplicationsAdvanced Sales Cloud and Service Cloud configuration: forecasting, products and price books, entitlements, milestones, omni-channel routing, and knowledge.11%
Auditing and MonitoringField history tracking, setup audit trail, debug logs, and the monitoring tools you reach for when something in the org changed and nobody will admit to it.10%
Environment Management and DeploymentSandboxes and refresh strategy, change sets, deployment considerations, and release management. The smallest section, and the one working admins most often have the least hands-on exposure to.7%

Security and Access plus Process Automation decide 40% of your score between them, and Objects and Applications takes the total to 59% across three sections. That is where your question volume belongs. Generate practice questions from your own Salesforce notes weighted the way the exam is weighted, and give Environment Management its 7% of attention rather than skipping it, because it is the section most admins have never touched at work.

Two things almost every prep source gets wrong

It is Platform Administrator II now

Salesforce renamed the credential to Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator II, following the Platform Developer I and II pattern. The natural guess, "Advanced Platform Administrator", is wrong, and it is the guess most people make after seeing the base admin exam become Platform Administrator. The old advancedadministrator Trailhead URL still resolves, so you can land on the right page while reading the wrong name.

There is no Agentforce on this exam

We checked the outline specifically for it, and the current Platform Administrator II guide contains no Agentforce, Einstein, AI, or Data Cloud content at all. This matters because the Platform Administrator exam below it does carry an 8% Agentforce domain. People reasonably assume the advanced exam must cover at least as much AI as the entry one. It does not. Studying Agentforce for this exam is wasted time.

There is a third discrepancy worth knowing, and it is Salesforce contradicting itself. The exam guide says you maintain this credential by completing a Trailhead maintenance badge three times a year. Salesforce's current maintenance schedule says once a year, and that the Platform Administrator maintenance badge maintains both credentials together, with no separate Platform Administrator II module at all. The dedicated maintenance articles are newer and more specific than the line left in the exam guide, so once a year is the figure to work from. Confirm it in your Trailhead maintenance tab, which shows your actual due date.

One more honest note about currency: the guide states that its questions align to the Summer '22 release, despite the article carrying a 2026 update date. That is Salesforce's own admission, and it explains the missing AI content. Practically, it means you should study the platform as it worked a few releases back rather than assume the newest features are fair game.

Advanced Administrator versus Administrator and Platform App Builder

These three exams cost the same and get confused constantly. They test genuinely different things, and only one of them gates the others.

The release-alignment row is the one to sit with. Each of these three exams is pinned to a different Salesforce release, which is why a single "Salesforce certification" course cannot serve all three well. Do not hold the admin cert yet? Start with the Salesforce admin practice exam, since it is mandatory before you can book this one. Building on the org rather than administering it? The Platform App Builder practice exam is the better fit, and it needs no prerequisite.

How to build Advanced Administrator practice questions that match the exam

This exam asks for judgment, not recall. Your questions should ask for judgment too.

1
Upload the live guide
Use the exam guide from Salesforce Help, not the Winter '19 PDF from developer.salesforce.com. Add your own org notes and Trailhead material so questions reflect both the outline and the way you actually work.
2
Weight the top three
Security and Access, Process Automation, and Objects and Applications are 59% of the score. Generate the most questions there, and do not let Environment Management and Deployment fall off entirely just because it is only 7%.
3
Make questions scenario-shaped
The exam gives a business requirement and asks which configuration meets it. Generate questions in that shape rather than definition questions, because knowing what a sharing rule is will not tell you when it beats a role hierarchy change.
4
Drill the plausible wrong answers
Most options on this exam would technically work. The scored skill is picking the one that scales and stays maintainable. Retake sets until you can articulate why the runner-up is worse, not just which answer is right.

Salesforce Advanced Administrator exam questions, answered

What is the passing score for the Salesforce Advanced Administrator exam?
65%, which is genuinely counterintuitive: it is lower than the 68% English bar on the Platform Administrator exam that gates it. The harder exam has the easier threshold. You face 60 scored multiple-choice and multiple-select questions plus up to 5 unscored ones, in 105 minutes, which works out to well under two minutes per question on a paper built from long scenarios.
How much does the Salesforce Advanced Administrator certification cost?
US$200 plus tax to register, US$100 plus tax to retake, matching the Platform Administrator and Platform App Builder exams. There is no free retake. The real budget question is the prerequisite: you cannot sit this without the Platform Administrator certification, so from a standing start the path is US$400 before any retakes. Many US employers reimburse both, and it is worth asking before you pay.
Do I need the Salesforce Administrator certification before Advanced Administrator?
Yes, and it is a hard gate rather than a suggestion. The Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator credential is required before you can book Platform Administrator II. This is unusual in the Salesforce lineup, where Platform App Builder and most others can be taken cold. If your admin cert has lapsed through missed maintenance, sort that out first.
Was the Salesforce Advanced Administrator certification renamed?
Yes, to Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator II. It follows the Platform Developer I and II convention rather than becoming "Advanced Platform Administrator", which is what most people assume after seeing the base admin exam get the Platform prefix. Trailhead's old advancedadministrator URL still works, so you can be on the correct official page and still see the old name in your search results. Everyone in the ecosystem still says Advanced Admin in conversation.
Does the Salesforce Advanced Administrator exam cover Agentforce?
No. We checked the current outline for it specifically and found no Agentforce, Einstein, AI, or Data Cloud content anywhere in it. That is a strange result given the Platform Administrator exam below it now devotes an 8% domain to Agentforce, and it is the single most likely thing to trip up someone who prepped for the admin exam recently and assumes the advanced one went further. It has not been refreshed that way. Its questions still align to Summer '22.
How hard is the Salesforce Advanced Administrator exam?
Hard in a different way from the admin exam rather than simply harder. The admin exam largely asks whether you know what a feature does. This one hands you a business requirement and several configurations that would all technically satisfy it, then scores whether you pick the one that scales. Security and Access and Process Automation carry 20% each, and both reward people who have cleaned up someone else's sharing model or untangled competing flows in a real org.
How do I maintain the Salesforce Advanced Administrator certification?
One free Trailhead maintenance badge per year, and there is a useful wrinkle: no separate Platform Administrator II module exists. The Platform Administrator maintenance badge maintains both credentials at once, so holding the pair is no more maintenance work than holding the entry-level one. Be aware the exam guide still carries stale text saying three times a year, contradicted by Salesforce's current maintenance schedule. Your Trailhead maintenance tab shows the real due date.
Is the Salesforce Advanced Administrator certification worth it?
For a working Salesforce admin in the US, it is one of the better returns in the ecosystem, and the prerequisite is why. Everyone holding it has passed two exams and demonstrated judgment about security models and automation at scale, which is exactly the line between an admin who executes requests and one who is trusted with architecture decisions. That line is where US pay bands separate in admin, consultant, and Salesforce architect roles. If you are not already administering an org day to day, the scenarios will feel abstract and the credential will not carry you.
