SnowPro Advanced: Administrator certifies that you can operate and secure a Snowflake account that already exists. The largest domain, at 31% of the exam, is security, role-based access control, and user administration, so most of your points come from designing least-privilege access, managing users and authentication, and setting network policies. The rest covers account management and governance, performance monitoring and cost control, data and object management, disaster recovery, and data sharing. Every question is a scenario: a team needs exactly this access, or a warehouse is burning credits, and you choose the best administrative action.
SnowPro Advanced: Architect certifies that you can design the platform itself. It is weighted toward Snowflake architecture, business continuity, and data engineering design: multi-cluster warehouse strategy, replication and failover topology, governed pipeline design, and performance and cost trade-offs made at design time rather than in daily operations. An architect decides how the account should be structured; an administrator keeps that structure running and secure.

One trap catches Administrator candidates before they even book: the exam code changed. Snowflake launched ADA-C02 on January 19, 2026 and retired the older ADA-C01 around the same transition, and the domain weightings were reorganized between the two versions. A lot of practice material and course outlines still target ADA-C01. If your prep references ADA-C01, treat it as out of date and confirm it maps to the current six ADA-C02 domains and their published weights before you rely on it. Architect (ARA-C01) has not had a code change, so current ARA-C01 material is fine.
Ask what you are accountable for. If your answer is uptime, access, cost, and recovery of a running account, take Administrator. If your answer is the shape of the environment, how regions and accounts connect, and how pipelines are designed, take Architect. Many senior engineers eventually hold both, but there is no rule that says you must, and there is no ordering requirement between them beyond the shared Core prerequisite.
